Japan is nothing if not the home of quirky - there are crying rooms where folks can pay money to get a good crying jag, hotel rooms which are sized like coffins and Kyoto recently released a guide aimed at showing tourists how to use toilets in the country.

So it's not exactly a surprise that the country has decided to open a museum dedicated to plumbing and toilets.

The museum which is owned and operated by famed toilet manufacturer, Toto is set to open today, September 4, and will  feature extensive exhibits highlighting the history of toilets and latrines of all types from around the world.

It will also have a library completely stocked with every toilet-related reading material imaginable.

Furthermore, the Japanese government is considering using the museum as a new tourism booster by installing how-to videos for hi-tech toilets in high tourist traffic areas around the country.
