London based designer talks inspiration, how to grow the fashion industry

London based Savile Row endorsed designer Emmy Collins sat down recently with Pulse.ng to talk about his brand, his controversial blog and the fashion industry...

The designer pulled off a buttery coloured suit with pink and blue colour lapel details in the finest fit that got everyone complimenting his style (you're immediately drawn to how sharp his style is). He would later reveal the piece is over a decade old!

Known for his premium and timeless pieces, the Nigerian designer prides himself in creating classic pieces that can compete with others from any part of the world.

A classic dresser, with Collins who is known for his sharp, no fuss sense of style the hat must top every look and it did perfect that day when he decided to speak about his UK based eponymous brand, the Nigerian fashion industry and everything in between, not leaving out his once controversial blog (which is back in the works with more exciting details).

The London based Savile Row endorsed designer sat down recently with Pulse.ng during a recent trip in Nigeria, excerpts;

On maintaining the Emmy Collins premium

When it comes to fashion, you have to have the passion. For me it's not about the commercial end of it (which is also very important because if you don't have money you can produce premium quality), with passion whatever you put out there is top quality.

If you're in the UK and have gone through the mentoring I have gone through. Like my mentor David Jones will say "You can never be everything to everybody", you can put out a collection and some people will love it but some will not. So for me it always has to be about the quality which means a lot to me.

On what inspires him

My inspiration comes from the people I mingle with, my environment. i also get inspiration from meeting people. I meet people sometimes and I'm dressing them up in my mind and sometimes questioning myself how to design what for whom. People and my environment inspire me which has been predominant in my designs.

Artists like , who where a lot of people paid attention to his music but not much paid attention to his style.

The designer who reveals he gets no inspiration in Nigeria noting that there's a possibility of getting carried away with making money as "as opposed to the craft" also shares he designs for his a target market, "I never go out thinking everybody will buy my designs, that would be setting yourself up for a fall".

He also dished on the Nigerian fashion industry and proposes ways to grow it amongst every other bit in an exciting chat with Pulse.
