Skincare, beauty items you should never share

Pulse daily is an everyday show that highlights every aspect of human living, on this episode beauty and skincare items one should never share with another person take centre stage

Besides not being safe for your skin, experts say there are many reasons why you should be selfish when it comes to items that makes direct contact with your skin, eyes, mouth, lips and so on. This is because when there is a body fluid contact there is bound to be a form of infection.

While you don't want to be seen as prude/selfish, consider why you would want to hold back next time someone asks for your lip brush and more...

Mascara, Eyeshadow and Eyeliner

They lead to various eye infections. Since the Mascara used on the lashes can make contacts with your eyes/eye fluid, if passed to a person with any kind of eye infection there is a strong possibility of eye infection

Lipstick

It's also bad to share lipstick because viruses can live on inanimate objects. So if the person gets cold sores, you can also get a cold sore outbreak which could easily have been prevented. A rule of the thumb is to never share anything that comes into direct contact with someone’s skin or mucus membranes.

Make-Up Brushes

Yous should never share make-up brrushes. Germs and bacteria grow on your makeup brushes and applicators and these cause breakouts so imagine when you pass to the next person and the next so use them alone and wash  regularly to stop acne.

Antiperspirant

If you share a roll-on antiperspirant, you could transfer germs, bacteria, fungi and yeast from person to person. Stop sharing antiperspirant, if you have to switch to a spray instead.

Nail Clippers, Buffers And Files

Avoid sharing these even in salons. And never share them with friends as well. If cuticles are cut or pushed back too far or some kind skin is removed, you could have little cuts in your skin which perfect openings for bacteria, fungus, yeast and viruses to be exchanged from tools that haven't been properly sanitized between users this open the gateway for Hepatitis C, staph infections, warts and so on.

Toothbrushes

Sharing toothbrush is a no-no since you could pass infections along on those bristles, especially from flossing when there is usually a small amount of bleeding.

Earrings

When you poke an earring through your ear, you may make a little break in the skin, allowing viruses from the last wearer to enter the blood, even when there is no blood/cut but there is still potential risk if you don't clean your jewelry between wearers.

Earphones

A lot of us are guilty of this! But frequent earphone use increases the amount of bacteria in your ears, according to a study, that bacteria could spread to another's ear if you share headphones, and could lead to ear infections. Avoid sharing or at least wash/ sanitize them first sharing headphones is also reputed to pass along lice! So be careful.
