Pointers showing it's time to relax

Wellness expert/Pop Up Spa creative director Oyekemi Agoro breaks down the levels of stress and how to relax.

Pop Up Spa set to hold on 5th and 6th November

The wellness expert and creative director of Pop Up Spa; a brainchild of Spa Pampering At Home an indigenous mobile spa changing the face of wellness in the country breaks down the levels of stress and how to relax just before the indigenous Pop Up Spa event set for November 5th and 6th 2016.

"Please have seat … Do you want some water? …Can I offer you Tea or Coffee? Do you recognize that these are all gestures to indicate that you should relax and feel at home/ease/rest? Why is relaxation so important?  Rest and Relaxation is how we counter stress.

Dr, Mark Ketterer, a Clinical Psychologist at the Henry Forst Hospital, Detroit USA said, “Stress can be the spice of life or the kiss of death”. So how do you keep your life spicy and stay alive? You have to first recognize when rest is needed, how stressed you are and how to relax.

There are 3 levels of stress:

1. Calm no stress: You have no worries in the world (you have clouded your worries with abuse of substance, alcohol or your loved ones). You have no motivation to get started or get going. This is in fact a level of depression and not a good place to be. Mind clearing and body balancing activities can help get you out of a temporary low.

2. Eustress:  This is the level at which you want to keep your stress. It is when your productivity levels are at their peak, and you are able to get the job done. This is the stress that we want in our lives. It is an indicator that you have a well-balanced life.

3. Distress:  It’s is all piled up, the kids need attending, the boss is demanding more and more and you just don’t have enough internal resources to get them done, your productivity start to decrease and you feel like giving up. This is the point when rest can make the difference between succeeding and quitting.

There are plenty of ways to relax, and here is what we recommend.

Rest does not necessarily mean sleep, although 6-8 hours a night is the recommended amount you should be getting. If you are not getting that you should know that a 1 hour massage equates to 8 hours of sleep for your body

Give your mind a break from and stop taking it about events from your past, and worrying about events of the future. Allowing your mind to stay in the moment gives you the clarity to achieve more with a better purpose.

Meditation can make sure you take slow, deep breaths to inhale fresh air and fill your body with oxygen. Follow that with a nice herbal tea.

Coloring engrosses your imagination with paining, colors can do wonders for your mood.  So many people recommend this way of unwinding and taking a break from a busy mind.

Just like what the eye sees, what the nose smells can greatly influence your mood and help relax. Aromatherapy is a natural untapped resource. Citrus smells are very well known for uplifting the mood.
