Jilted man kills lover, tries to kill self

A young Kenyan who was dumped by his girlfriend decided to kill her; and an angry mob carried out jungle justice on him.

Scene of the gruesome murder

An angry mob at the Moi University, Kenya, took the laws into their hands and handed down instant justice to a 23-year-old male student, Kelvin Cheruiyot, by beating him to death, after he stabbed his girlfriend, 21-year-old Cecilia Jebet, to death, because she dumped him, reports Nairobi News.

According to the report, Cheruiyot had also attempted to kill himself but his attempt was unsuccessful, so the crowd helped him to carry out his wish.

The young man who was reported to be a student at another university, had gone to Jebet's house near the university, in the night to confront him for the break up. In the process, a quarrel ensued and he stabbed her to death before trying to hang himself but a crowd of angry students and residents broke into the room, brought him out and beat him to death.

An eyewitness told the online portal:

“We rushed to the house after she had screamed for help but we could not get in because the door had been locked from inside.

We decided to break the door and that is when we found her bleeding profusely; she had been stabbed. She later succumbed to her injuries later.

When the attacker realized the repercussions of what he had done, he took a rope and tried to commit suicide but that not happen because residents broke into the house, dragged him outside and lynched him."
