EFCC secures 28 months jail for fraudster

A notorious fraudster in Kano State has been sentenced to prison for involving in a land scam.

Usman Salisu Umar

An unrepentant fraudster who specialised in duping unsuspecting members of the public by promising to sell them choice plots of lands in Kano State and other parts of the north, Usman Salisu Umar, has been sentenced to 28 months in prison after being dragged before Justice Dije Aboki of the Kano State High Court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC).

The anti-graft agency had hung a three-count charge on the neck of Umar bordering on criminal breach of trust and forgery after he was arrested in 2013 by operatives of the body following a petition received from one Alhaji Jibrin Umar, who alleged that Umar sold his landed property at Plot 1258 located at Kawaji Quarters, Kano, without his authorisation.

The court heard that Umar had impersonated the son of the petitioner and sold the land to one Alhaji Alhassan Idris, to the tune of N15 million, presenting a forged authority letter and sales agreement papers purportedly signed by the landowner.

In a release by the EFCC Media and Publicity unit, Justice Aboki, while sentencing Umar said:
