One dead as car runs into parked lorry [Photos]

A car has rammed into a parked lorry claiming the life of one and leaving three others injured.

A statement issued by the Lagos Emergency Management Agency Facebook page revealed that the accident which occurred on Saturday, December 3, resulted in the death of a middle-aged man with three others sustaining multiple injuries, LIB reports.

The statement read in part, "This prompted the immediate activation of the agency's ERT to the scene of the incident. The dead victim identified as Lere nicked named as (swagger) was extricated by the Agency's Emergency Response Team with the use of light duty equipment from the trapped car and was later taken away by the family members who rushed down to the scene.

"The injured victims were also immediately taken by LASAMBUS to Gbagada General Hospital for necessary medical attention, The broken down trucks, including another loaded with insecticides, were removed after a rigorous operation with the of the LASEMA Response Unit heavy duty machines such as super metro, crane and fork lift and handed over to Nigerian Police men from Shasha for further investigation."

Responders at the scene of the incident included, the Agency's ERT, LASTMA officials, men of the Nigeria Police Force (Shaha Division) Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, National Emergency Management Agency and FRSC.

The General Manager LASEMA, Mr Adesina Tiamiyu, warned motorists especially the drivers of articulated trucks drivers to ensure safety signs are placed at strategic locations for broken down vehicles at all times.

He added that it would help to reduce the loss of lives as well as the man hours associated with such accidents and the gridlock that usually follows.

Mr Tiamiyu also noted that the affected trucks were overloaded leading to their breakdown.

He revealed that proper investigations would be conducted by security operatives to avoid future occurrences.
