I Don't Take Any Substances Before Going Stage

The "Heartbeat" singer debunks rumours of indulging in substances before getting on stage

Soul singer, Nneka has denied speculations that she indulges in substances before hitting the stage.

Speaking exclusively to Pulse, the "Heartbeat" singer said you don't need to be high to go on stage or write a good song. If anything, the best form of highness is being clear and able to feel a performance.

In her words:

"You don't have to be high to go on stage or write a good song. There was a time I thought you had to be high to write good lyrics but that's just rubbish. The highest place you can be is when you're clear because that's when you feel. You're 100% there and its painful to be able to feel. People take substances because they can't stand reality, because feeling a 100% is painful. The realest highness is being clear."

She said further:

"I  tend not to take any substance before going on stage and I make laws for my band members to not ever go high on my stage because its like going to war without a bullet in your gun. Its a battlefield and we don't war against flesh and blood, we war against principalities. Maybe afterwards we can have a party and you can do your stuff if you need to, but when you're on my stage, you need to be clear"
