IGP Suleiman Abba

With just a month to handing over the reigns of power to President-elect Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, President Goodluck Jonathan took the whole nation by surprise with the sacking of former Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba.

Though no reasons were given for the sack, there has been many speculations as to what could have led to his firing, with many postulating that he was not loyal to the President.

Others speculate that he was held responsible for the failure of the GEJ in the presidential election while some are of the school of thought that the president was no more comfortable with Abba's hobnobbing with Buhari.

But Information Minister, Patricia Akwashiki, after the Federal Executive Council (FEC), meeting, said the president has broad powers to appoint someone and also sack the person.
