Mechanic arraigned for dealing in Cannabis

An apprentice mechanic was on Friday arraigned for the unlawful dealing in Cannabis

Emmanuel Brodricks, 27, on Friday, pleaded guilty to a count of unlawfully dealing in a narcotic drug. The drug in question happened to be Cannabis popularly called Marijuana, or Indian Hemp, NAN reports.

Justice Mohammed Yunusa of a Federal High Court, Lagos, remanded him in Ikoyi Prisons.

The prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, an officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 19, at No. 62, Dillion St., Kirikiri, Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos.

Aernan said that the accused unlawfully dealt in 1.5 kilogrammes of Indian hemp. He said that the offence contravened Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation 2004.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the accused in prison custody and requested for a date for the review of facts. “My lord, due to the plea of the accused and the absence of the exhibits which would enable me do a proper review of the facts of the case, may the case be adjourned and the accused remanded in prison custody,” Aernan requested.

Yunusa, however, remanded the accused in prison and adjourned the case to June 22, for the review of facts. The drug trafficking offence could attract life imprisonment if the accused is convicted.
