A woman who is HIV positive has been sent to jail for raping a mentally challenged man.
The sentence was handed to Khumalo by regional magistrate Collet Ncube, after she pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of aggravated indecent assault.
In passing the sentence, Ncube said Khumalo deserved to be punished as she had exposed an innocent man to HIV.
“What you did is horrible and you exposed an innocent man to HIV. You knew what you were doing and for that you deserve to be punished.
You are sentenced to 20 years imprisonment. Two years are suspended for five years on condition you don’t commit a similar offence,” Ncube said.
The prosecutor, Emmanuel Matosi, had earlier told the court that in October last year, Khumalo called the 30-year-old man into her room and ordered him to fondle her breasts.
"Khumalo, who was a domestic worker at the complainant’s home, then undressed him and asked him to have sexual intercourse with her.
After the first time, Khumalo had sex three times with the man, without protection.
The matter came to light when the man told his aunt what had happened. The matter was reported to the police leading to Khumalo’s arrest."
