Court jails man 3 years over N5.8m fraud

The convict, who was arraigned on Oct. 26, 2016, on two-count-charge of fraud and stealing, had pleaded not guilty to the offence.

18 Christians sentenced to jail.

Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode, who handed down the sentence, said it  would serve as a deterrent to others.

The magistrate, however, ordered that the sentence should start from the time of  the convict’s arraignment.

Ijiyode  had  granted the convict bail in the sum of  N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

The Prosecutor, Insp  Sunday Osanyintuyi, had informed the court that the convict fraudulently obtained one Toyota Hummer Bus marked  XA 401 FFE  and valued at  N5.8 million,  property of one Oladiji Olayemi.

He stated further that the offence was contrary to Section 383 and punishable under Sections 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34 Vol 11, Laws of Osun, 2002.
