Mob set couple ablaze on allegations of witchcraft

An old couple have been burnt to ashes on allegations of witchcraft practice.

A man and his wife were reportedly set ablaze by an angry mob in the the town of Karonga, in the northern district of Malawi, for allegedly practicing witchcraft, reports Face of Malawi.

The deceased couple, Taipi Vinkhumbo, 76 and Marinara Vinkhumbo, 65, were suspected of being the cause of the mysterious deaths of three people who were attacked by crocodiles in the past weeks.

Karonga Police Spokesperson, Enock Rivasoni, confirmed of the development, saying the couple from the Mtendere village Traditional Authority Kyungu, were said to be the ones that transformed into the crocodiles that attacked and killed their kinsmen and were beaten and set on fire by the angry mob.

“They were assaulted and then the mob took them to their home kitchen where they burned the victims inside. We only found ashes and no body,” said Rivasoni.
