Police Officer Injures Pregnant Woman Over N50

The officer reportedly hit the expectant mother with the butt of his gun over a bribe

A police officer in Bayelsa has attracted mass outrage after he allegedly hit a pregnant woman.

The incident is said to have occurred yesterday, August 26, 2014 and it led to protests by commercial tricycle, aka Keke NAPEP, operators in the state.

The unidentified police officer was allegedly trying to extract a N50 bribe from a tricycle driver but when the latter resisted, the officer attacked him and hit the woman in the process.

The victim reportedly sustained a mouth injury after the assault which left her bleeding. She was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Officials of the Azikoro Divisional Police Headquarters in the state described the officer’s conduct as careless but denied that he had used the rifle butt to hit the pregnant woman.
