The Voice Nigeria season 2 1st Live Show

Watching The Voice Nigeria with a group of strangers or friends is way more interesting than sitting on a coach with just Twitter reactions as your companion.

I would discover this during the live screening of the 1st Live Show on Sunday,  August 27, 2018. The event held at Terra Kulture Victoria Island, Lagos.

Hosted by Ozzy Agu, the night saw comedic performances from Funny Bone and Akpororo.

Season one finalists, Patrick, Cornel, Viveeyan, Chike and Bassey also performed the popular "Till the World Hears Your Voice," reminding us of how much we have missed seeing them on our screen.

Here are five other things that happened during the 1st Live Show of The Voice Nigeria season 2.

1. Wrong song choice

"What coach" selects a P-Square song for a singing competition? That was my first question when Team Pato's Afolayan came on stage.

That was also before I found out that the contestants selected their songs for the Live Shows. So, why did most of the contestants choose the wrong songs?

Glowire, Ifeoma and Precious chose foreign songs that complement their voices, Bada, Wow, Hightee and Wolei did justice to difficult songs, the rest didn't get the memo that song choice is everything.

2. IK Osakioduwa's rough start

When the show kicked off, it was obvious that the host, IK Osakioduwa, had something other than hosting duties on his mind.

He would later blame his dull opening on Arsenal's losing their game with Liverpool.

3. Team Timi had the best performances

I don't envy Timi or his contestants. The coach assembled the best talents on the show.

While this means his team gets to deliver outstanding performances every weekend, it also means that every week, a very talented favourite would be evicted.

4. The Night had more average performances than outstanding ones

Blame it on stage fright or wrong song choice, but Team Pato, save Hightee, failed to bring their A-game to the Live show.

Except for Ifeoma's outstanding rendition of Andra Day's "Rise Up," Yemi Alade's team gave viewers an Okay night.

Waje's team delivered just two amazing performances from Wow and Glowire. We already mentioned how great Team Timi was.

5. The polite judges

After KessyDriz's rendition of Tina Tuner's "What Love Got to Do With It," Yemi Alade was asked what she thought about the performance.

Rather than praise or criticize the performance, she spoke about how much she loved her outfit.

There's probably a rule that forbids the judges from being honest with the contestants during the Live Shows.

The viewers are never going to completely agree with the judges;
