Read how the Classic FM OAP died

According to reports, Sly had Spinal Tuberculosis after experiencing back pain.

 

The details of how late Classic FM presenter Sylvester ‘Sly’ Ojigbede died has emerged.

'Sly' who passed away on May 3, 2015 and buried on May 8, 2015 passed away from spinal cord infection.

According to City People, Sly had Spinal Tuberculosis after experiencing back pain. After a few days the pain grew worse despite taking medicine.

He contacted his hospital located in Ikoyi, but the X-rays and scans done on him did not show anything was wrong. The pain grew worse and he was referred to LUTH, but nothing was discovered. In his second week in LUTH, Sly became paralysed from his waist down.

It was at this point that an MRI scan was done on him which revealed he had Spinal Tuberculosis. The diagnosis was late as it had started to kill nerves located in the lower part of his body. The condition moved from his spine to his lungs, chest, then his heart which killed him.

According to its report, Sly was moved from LUTH to Infectious Diseases Hospital in Yaba on May 3, the day he died.

Sylvester Ojigbede's death could have been avoided if his condition was diagnosed early. He died within six weeks of his ailment, while research has proven that Spinal Tuberculosis can be treated within 2 to 3 months if detected early.

The late OAP was buried at Ikoyi Cemetary. He is survived his wife Ivy Funmilayo, and two daughters- Tare and Luyi.
