1 Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay's ‘fight’

It’s one thing for celebrities to call each other out on social media, but it’s a spectacle when they almost go head to head in real life.

In June, music stars Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay left Nigerians dumbfounded after a video of the two close to knocking each other out surfaced online.

It was one of those typical confrontations between two people who had a long beef. Savage and Shay put aside their celebrity status and millions of followers on social media as they insulted each other in public.

Their rift is said to have dated back to 2019 when another music star, Kizz Daniel, started a viral challenge tagged #FvckYouChallenge. Shay was alleged to have shaded Savage in her version of the challenge.

2 Tonto Dikeh and the 2-month-old relationship with Prince Kpokpogri

After Tonto Dikeh's failed marriage to businessman Churchill Olakunle in 2017, not many thought the movie star would jump into the dating scene again.

In July, the movie star against all odds found love again in the arms of activist Prince Kpokpogri.

The lovebirds showered expensive gifts on each other to the admiration of fans. About two months into the relationship, a lot of Nigerians were still learning to pronounce the movie star's new lover's name when they unfollowed each other on Instagram.

While fans were still trying to grapple with what was going on, a leaked audiotape of Kpokpogri accusing Tonto of being an alcoholic and an unrepentant smoker surfaced.

It was followed by weeks of accusations and counter-accusations by both parties. Dikeh accused the self-acclaimed activist of having the sex tapes of several celebrities including IG dancer, Janemena.

At some point, Kpokpogri was reportedly arrested by the police at the request of the actress, a report he denied.

3. Annie Idibia dragging 2Face Idibia on Instagram

In the eyes of many Nigerians, fans and even critics, Nigerian music icon, 2Face Idibia's marriage to Nollywood movie star Annie Idibia is seen as one made in heaven.

That was the notion until midnight sometime in September when the movie star woke Nigerians from their sleep. The mother of two called out her husband over his 'suspicious' relationship with one of his baby mamas, Pero Adeniyi.

She also accused his family of not loving and caring about her since their marriage started.

A few weeks later a leaked audiotape of the movie star surfaced where she threatened fire and brimstone.

2Face later released a statement asking the public to back off his marital issues.

4. Baba Ijesha’s molestation case

For many Nigerians, little or nothing was known about Nollywood actor Baba Ijesha until the police broke the news of his arrest in April.

The actor who is popular in the Yoruba Nollywood space was accused of molesting a child. It got interesting a few days later when comedian Princess in a video revealed that the child in question is her foster child.

She gave a detailed breakdown of how the disgraced actor who was her close friend visited her home and molested her child. About a week later, a video of the actor confessing to the crime surfaced online.

There was a massive uproar across the country with many people calling for the head of the actor. It was a different ball game entirely in the entertainment industry as celebrities picked sides.

The actor was later arraigned on a four-count charge of sexual assault and indecent treatment of a child.

5. Alexx Ekubo's engagement to Fancy Acholonu called off

One of the biggest wedding ceremonies the entire country (or maybe just celeb lovers) were looking out for in 2021 was that between Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo and Fancy Acholonu.

In May, Ekubo announced he was going to be walking down the aisle with Acholonu. The following week, the couple announced the dates for their wedding.

But by August, Acholonu deleted all of Ekubo's photos from her Instagram page. She also unfollowed him on the social media platform. It became clear that there was fire on the mountain.

Less than 24 hours after most online tabloids revealed that the couple had split, Acholonu released a press statement calling off the engagement.

"I am aware this may be a shock to many people. I made the best decision for myself, because it is important that everyone finds happiness and live in their truth. At this time, my family and I ask for you all to please respect our privacy. Thank you so much."

Ekubo remained silent about the breakup.
