VC explains how to make UNILAG world-class school
UNILAG VC identifies establishment of university-owned mini-refinery as a way to make the school a world class institution.
Ogundipe who spoke at the at the second Engineering Faculty alumni lecture said his plans towards making UNILAG a world-class institution included building a mini-refinery and setting up of skills acquisition centre for the students.
Ogundipe, who is the 12th Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos emphasised the establishment of a mini-refinery as a way to develop Chemical Engineering students of the school.

“If you go to some of the universities in Texas when their students graduate, because they have refineries in their universities they do not need to do certain courses when it comes to professional courses. Engineering has left that level of just setting down and starts computing.
“It is now about turning ideas to realities. It is about producing entrepreneurial skills and developing the skills in the life our students.
“We need to develop our students, all of them have skills that are unique to them, and the skills can help them set up their own businesses in future''.
CBN and Bank of Indusrty to sponsor UNILAG refinery project
The VC, however, said the mini-refinery project is being done in partnership with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Bank of Industry.
Recall that in January 2018, UNILAG became the first university in Nigeria to establish a television station following President Muhammadu Buhari's approval of the institution's TV station.
