Students in Ogun State are rejoicing after the state government announced a reduction of tuition fees in all state-owned tertiary institutions.

Ogun state governor Amosun has approved an across-board reduction in tuition fees of all state-owned tertiary institutions
Ogun state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Segun Odubela, told journalists that Governor Ibikunle Amosun has approved a new tuition fee regime, effective from the 2014/2015 academic session.
This announcement is coming just a week after Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola Raji 3-years battle.
Odubela added that in the new regime, reached after extensive dialogue between government, students Union leaders and institutions managements, also abolished the 'indigene/non-indigene dichotomy'.
This means that students studying same courses in the same institution will pay the same fees, whether or not they are from Ogun state.
In the new regime:
Sciences - N176,596 a 41.4 percent reduction from N301,610
Faculty of Arts - N81,112 a 35.9 per cent reduction from N126,540
Higher National Diploma (HND) - N40,000 a 31.1 percent reduction
National Diploma (ND)- N22,300 a 9.6 percent reduction
First Year Students - N75,000 a 27.5 percent reduction from from N103,435
Returning Students - N65,000, representing 30.4 per cent reduction from N93,465
Higher National Diploma (HND) - N46,000 a 61 percent reduction from N118,000
Students of three other institutions will enjoy the fees reduction.
