A pastor in Abia State, Chinuru Martins, and an evangelist, Adora Nwaneri, have been arrested by men of the Directorate of State Security (DSS) for kidnapping and child trafficking in Anambra State.
Pastor, evangelist arrested for child trafficking, kidnapping
The pastor and evangelist were arrested for kidnapping and child trafficking in Anambra State. Three children were rescued during the arrest.
The duo was arrested alongside 13 others in connection to a slew of missing children in the state. Men of the DSS also rescued three children who have been kindppaed from the suspects. Three-year-old Chinonso Oriuwa, two-year-old Chidera Abiara and seven-month old Chinasa Abiara were all taken from their parents by the suspects.
Chinuru Martins and Adora Nwaneri were paraded before newsmen at the DSS state headquarters in Awka on Friday, December 5 alongside 13 other suspects- Solomon Loveday Nwadinobi from Umuahia and Chiko Chima Ogu from Obowu in Imo state, all male. Nnena Ogbonna Nwachukwu from Bende in Abia, Eunice Tochukwu Uwakwe, Glory Nnennaya Okwara a nurse from Arochukwu, Felicia Ebeh from Mbaise, Esther Eleanya from Abiriba, Ifeoma Iwu from Obowu, Anurika Theophilus, Osisioma in Abia state, Loveth Nwankwo from Isiala Ngwa in Abia and Comfort Charity Ononuju all female.
Speaking to newsmen during the parade the Anambra State Director of (DSS), Mr. Alex Okeiyi, said there had been rampant cases of missing children in recent times. He said many churches, and their pastors are involved in this kind of business, adding that the situation had become a source of worry to security and the society.
Mr. Alex Okeiyi revealed that a total of 17 persons including some members of the syndicate and buyers of the children were arrested.
“This is beyond child trafficking, it is pure kidnap and they will be handed over to the relevant authorities for further action,” Mr. Alex Okeiyi reiterated.
