They shared insight based on working with and in the government and discussed how leveraging technology would have improved efficiency.

  • Transparency and accountability in governance will increase the interest of innovation players in government.
  • Largely African Countries are playing catch up with the innovation Ecosystem, making it difficult for
  • government to tap from the sector.
  • Increased number of forum discussions between policymakers and the innovation community will hasten the
  • adoption of improved methods in governance.
  • Creating change within government can only be achieved using people from the outside government—people who do not have an existing bias or loyalty to the current systems.

However, the highlight of the session was when participants alongside panellist broke out into sessions.

The breakout sessions were divided according to the government's four major pillars: security, accountability, leadership, and social development.

  • Providing 'packets' of information shared via USSD or via pre-recorded
  • voice calls. This could come in handy by partnering with telecom companies.

Security

  • Improving data and identity management.
  • Supporting the police and security personnel, ensuring that they are equipped with the resources needed to address situations.
