A 79-year old convicted killer who has been on the run for over 50 years has run out of luck after he was arrested by police in Florida.

The convicted killer, Frank Freshwaters reportedly escaped in 1959 and was briefly held by West Virginia authorities in 1975 before he was freed and disappeared again.

Freshwaters, who was convicted of manslaughter for killing a pedestrian with a vehicle in July 1957 has reportedly been living under an assumed name in Florida for at least 20 years.

According to BBC, his initial sentence of 1 to 20 years was suspended until he violated probation by getting a driving licence.

He was imprisoned at the Ohio State Reformatory before being moved to a lower-security camp near Sandusky, where he escaped in September 1959.

Narrating his arrest, Major Tod Goodyear of the Brevard County Sheriff's office said they created a ruse to get Freshwaters to sign papers to check his fingerprints.

After a week of surveillance, US marshals and Florida confronted him with an old booking photo as he left his trailer home in rural Melbourne, Florida, asking whether he had seen the man, and although he first said he hadn't seen him in a long time, he eventually admitted he was indeed the man in the booking photo.
