3 persons have been reported dead and at least 64 people have been seriously injured following a Metrobus crash in Johannesburg,South Africa.

According to Eye Witness News, 2 buses collided on Jan Smuts Avenue, killing one of the drivers and two passengers, including a pregnant woman seated on the top level.

Eyewitness, Mopa Lebeng described the scene of the accident as follows:

“There were a lot of screams, a lot of cries, I could tell people were still in shock, people were hurt, people were limping, and others were still trying to climb out of the bus. It was a mess and I saw just a couple of citizens also just trying to help people. They had their gloves on and were trying to calm everyone down.”

Meanwhile the bus company has said the surviving driver has told managers that he may have lost control but an investigation into how the accident happened is now underway.

Metrobus has reportedly since raised serious concerns about the safety of its service after another bus drove off the Queen Elizabeth Bridge earlier this year.
