Whistleblower refused entry into Germany

German opposition parties planned to bring Snowden into the country to give evidence regarding the operations of the US National Security Agency (NSA).

Germany’s constitutional court has made an order preventing American whistleblower, Edward Snowden from entering the country.

German opposition parties planned to bring Snowden into the country to give evidence regarding the operations of the US National Security Agency (NSA).

However, the country’s highest court has supported the government which previously maintained that the whistleblower’s presence in Germany could affect relations with the US and put the European country under pressure to extradite him.

The German government has suggested that the members of the committee, before which Snowden was to speak, should be sent to Moscow, Russia, where he is currently in exile, to interview him.

However, the whistleblower has insisted that he will only speak to the committee if he is allowed to do so in Germany.

Snowden enjoys tremendous support in Germany where there is hostility towards the NSA due to allegations that the agency had at one time bugged Chancellor Angela Merkel’s phone.
