A new report has surfaced and it is very disastrous for Volkswagen executives.

According to a German newspaper, Bild am Sonntag, Volkswagen executives knew about the false claims a year ago, despite the carmaker maintaining that it only found out about the diesel issues two months ago.

The publication states that Martin Winterkorn, Volkswagen's former CEO, knew about the false fuel efficiency and emissions claims.

According to the newspaper, the former CEO pulled one model off the market because of it's excessive fuel consumption problem, not because of low sales figures, as the carmaker previously stated.

This comes after the German automaker shared its plan for fixing affected diesel engines.

Volkswagen is yet to respond to this new development.
