From Monday (yesterday), Snapchat will start selling the camera-equipped sunglasses on its website to anyone in the US that can fork over $130 (about N44, 000) for a pair.

The Spectacles, which Snapchat hopes will help position itself as a "camera company," can record 10-second video clips and connect to the Snapchat app.

Snap Inc., the company behind Snapchat and Spectacles, will also close down its Spectacles pop-up store in New York, USA, which has been open since November.

According to a Tech Insider report, a Snap spokesperson confirmed that the company's "Snapbot" vending machines will continue to make random appearances around the US - just after it goes on a "brief" holiday.

Snap generated a lot of talk with the unexpected debut of Spectacles last year, with the product pulling long lines during the weeks leading up to the holidays. Pairs quickly resold online for thousands of Dollars, the Tech Insider report says.

Snap's much talked about IPO is in March and it plans to "significantly broaden the distribution of Spectacles" although the product "has not generated significant revenue" yet.
