Where are the opportunities for monetisation? [Day 2]

Day 2 of Mobile West Africa 2016 was themed "The business of mobile content - where the opportunities lie" and the first session was chaired by Chika Nwobi, managing partner, L5LABS.

Day 2 of Mobile West Africa 2016 was themed "The business of mobile content - where the opportunities lie" and the first session was chaired by Chika Nwobi, managing partner, L5LABS.

Lexi Novitske, principal investment - Africa, Singularity Investment, took the first presentation speaking on the topic: "The future of the business of mobile content: An appraisal of the key factors that are shaping the direction of the industry".

Novitske explained the dynamics of content and survival with regards to the MNO. She also explained how brands and advertisers can make money without building mobile apps as well as the role VCs are playing in shaping innovation for the bad.

The next speaker to take the stage was David Steinacker, senior strategic partner manager, Sub-Saharan Africa, Google, who spoke on the topic: "Monetizing the mobile opportunity: An evaluation of where the openings are in mobile and how to take advantage".

Steinacker evaluated the mobile as a revenue generator, identifying the openings and how to take advantage of those openings.

The third presentation of the morning was taken by Chima Okwundu, director of strategy innovation and new business of West African hosting center at Huawei. He spoke on the topic: "Content is king but how can we expand the kingdom?"

Okwundu spoke on the business of mobile content explaining why content is undeniably at the heart of today's digital entertainment marketing strategies. He further identified how businesses can continue to explore new cost effective channels for content acquisition and distribution in addition to the advent of big data and how it has assisted in giving valuable insight on the type of content the target audience will consume and the new opportunities that lie there.

After the presentations, the speakers along with Roseline Ilori, country manager - Nigeria, Mtech Communications, Daryn Wober, CEO Ventra Media Group, and Charles Oviawe, CEO & Co-Founder Qube247 sat on a panel that discussed the various presentations and took questions from guests present at the event.
