Web browser's users overtake Internet Explorer, Edge for the first time ever

According to a report from StatCounter, Mozilla Firefox has overtaken Edge and Internet Explorer in terms of market share for the first time.

Mozilla Firefox is one of the most popular web browsers in the world

Microsoft may have tried to redeemed its web browser image by building the Edge browser, but the decision to deprioritize Internet Explorer might be helping its rivals.

According to a report from StatCounter, Mozilla Firefox has overtaken Edge and Internet Explorer in terms of market share for the first time.

StatCounter takes data from three million websites which receives at least 15 billion page views per month and stated that as of April, Firefox represented 15.6 percent of its desktop traffic globally, fractionally ahead of Internet explorer and Edge.

However, all three browsers are well behind Google Chrome, which has more than one million users across all platforms and accounts for 60 percent of StatCounter's traffic.

The statistics could be a sign of the future, or just a statistic - but, either way, Google Chome's reign at the top of the web browser summit doesn't seem likely to be challenged anytime soon.
