Developers can now bring their Android and iOS apps to Windows 10

The company said that developers will have the ability to “reuse nearly all the Java and C++ code from an Android phone app to create apps for phones running Windows 10.”

Screen with announcement today.

Microsoft announced today that developers will be able to easily bring their Android and iOS applications to Windows devices.

Microsoft was light on how this will work during today’s announcement at the ongoing Build conference but more information should surface tomorrow.

Microsoft has suffered from a serious shortage of apps on the Windows phone and Windows 8.x platforms: A lack of apps in the early days of the Windows 8 most likely discouraged users from visiting the store, limiting downloads and therefore developer attention.

Microsoft is trying to reverse this and also announced that web developers will also be able to bring their traditional windows desktop apps to the Windows store.

Before now, developers could have their normal windows apps featured in the store, but the actual purchase had to be on the developer’s site. Now Windows is saying they can be installed directly from the store with the new tools it’s providing for developers.

This, according to Microsoft, delivers on the company’s promise to give its users a better experience.
