iPhone: 5s, 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, SE, 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, X
iPad: 5th generation (2017); Mini 2, 3 and 4; all Air models and all Pro Model
iPod Touch: 6th generation (2015)
iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c owners will not be able to get iOS 11. Apple is also dropping support for the 2012 iPad 4.
Here are seven useful features to benefit from when you upgrade to the new Apple OS.
Emergency mode
The emergency SOS mode feature can be used to lock down the phone and send messages for help. Medical information is also accessible on here. The mode disables touch ID and Face ID so that nobody can force you to unlock your phone.
This mode can be activated by pressing the sleep/wake mode five times to activate. With the iPhone X, you would need to long press the sleep/wake button and the volume button.
New control centre
iOS 11's revamped control centre is not only pleasing to the eye but it’s efficient. When you swipe up, you’ll no longer see the half-screen block with a handful of connectivity and utility options. Also you won't need to swipe across to a second screen to access the music control centre. The new control centre fills the entire screen and presents you with a lot more options for customizing such as putting on the brightness settings that you so need badly under bright sunlight.
Easier Wi-Fi password sharing
This comes in handy for when you want to access your friend’s Wi-Fi network whose password is otherwise very complex to type in easy.
With the new OS, once you try connecting to a friend or a public network’s Wi-Fi, you get a pop-up with which you tap easily on ‘’Share password”.
The Safety Driving Mode
The new IOS can now autodetect when you are driving due to location and accelerometers, setting your phone to “Do Not Disturb Mode”, and silencing all notifications. This can be done manually of course and when your phone is connected to a car Bluetooth.
Smaller size same quality
Sizes of photos and videos that would otherwise take a ton of storage space such as 4k videos can now be trimmed while maintaining same quality. Ios 11 now uses HVEC and HEIF formats for photos and videos.
Also, if you send an email with a photo or video, ios automatically converts the files to JPEG and MP4 formats respectively.
Siri translation
Apple’s voice assistant can now translate languages automatically, using voice control to ask using voice control to ask it simple phrases.
Screen recording
Asides screenshotting what happens on your screen, This should be useful for particularly for a video recording that a screenshot can’t do justice to.
