DSS nabs notorious Facebook 'Accountant General of Nigeria'

A man named Izuagie Mohamed has been arrested by the no-nonsense Department of State Security Services (DSS).

Department of State Services (DSS) officers.

This one is quite funny. You know how most times you think nothing else in this Nigeria can surprise you, then you hear about some more bizzare debacle? Here you go.

A man named Izuagie Mohamed has been arrested by the no-nonsense Department of State Security Services (DSS) for allegedly impersonating the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) - wait for it - on Facebook.

Are you done laughing?

The bulk of the gist, according to Ifeanyi Okereke, Deputy Director of Press and Public Relations at the Office of the AGF, is that Izuagie had been using a "bogus Facebook account" where he allegedly posed as the AGF himself.

The guys at the office of the AGF noticed this and reported the matter to the Department of State Services (DSS). The Office of the AGF then went on to issue a public warning to be aware of the activities of scammers, emphasising that the AGF did not use any social media platform to conduct "business".

In their own words, "The general public is hereby notified that the Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmed Idris, as a thorough-breed professional, does not transact businesses on Facebook or any other social media platform nor facilitates access to loans for anyone.”

“The office hereby advises the general public to be wary of the activities of fraudsters, as they go about their businesses, especially, while using the social media,” it further stressed.

The whole thing is hilarious if you ask me, but poor old Izuagie is probably asking himself what the hell he was thinking to make impersonating the bloody Accountant General of Nigeria his hustle of choice.

There is no information on the persecution process which the AGF guys will want to pursue but let this be a warning to everyone you know: Don't impersonate the AGF on Facebook! Lol.
