Africa, your generic domain dame is here!

Africa's generic domain name just got approved, but this should have been a thing a long time ago.

.africa domain name has now been approved.

With the many domain names that are currently available (there's even a .xyz domain name), you'd think there'd be a .Africa domain name already. There is now, but this should have been a thing a long time ago.

In many ways, a .Africa domain name speaks to Africa's digital identity. But Africa, unlike Warri people, always comes last in a lot of things so it's not entirely surprising.

At least its here now. After several years of the African Union (AU) the lobbying the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the body that establishes these domains called top-level generic domains, has finally endorsed the domain name.

South Africa-based ZA Central Registry (ZACR) led the campaign for the domain endorsement and the company will handle the registration of .africa names.

According to Innovation Village, ZACR CEO Lucky Masilela said the .africa addresses will start at $18 (about N5,700) and it will available for purchase from July.

At least Africa has got its own domain name now and we can finally check another item we should have accomplished a long time ago on the world stage off our list.
