PDP thugs hold Vice President hostage in Kano

Sambo was detained by the hooligans during a visit to the old campus of the Bayero University in Kano State.

Nigeria’s Vice President, Namadi Sambo was on Monday, March 9, held hostage by a group of thugs claiming allegiance to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Sambo was temporarily detained by the hooligans during a visit to the old campus of the Bayero University in Kano State, Vanguard reports.

The trouble was said to have started when the thugs presented themselves as loyal party supporters and got past the VP’s security detail.

However, upon getting close to him they began to chant “Bamuayi, Bamuayi, Bamuayi” which means “we are no longer interested,” while others shouted “mungaji da aiki banza,” meaning “we are tired of bad jobs.”

The incident was said to have gone on for 20 minutes and was only stopped by the intervention of the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 1, Tambari Yabo.

Upon being asked why they had chosen to harass Sambo, the thugs reportedly stated that they had risked their lives for the PDP but had received no compensation despite several promises made.

The VP reportedly ordered that the men be settled to save the party further embarrassment.

The thugs, on the other hand, were said to have rejoined Sambo’s convoy after the matter was resolved.

Sambo’s office is yet to issue an official statement confirming the incident.
