Okorocha's happiness commissioner underlines how clueless he's become

Gov Okorocha's appointment of a happiness and fulfilment commissioner for couples is proof that he's finally lost it.

Please don't laugh out loud. It's no joke.

This week, Okorocha swore in 28 new commissionersand 27 Transition Committee Chairmen for the 27 local government councils in the State.

Among the newly sworn-in commissioners was the Governor’s sister, Mrs. Ogechi Ololo (nee Okorocha) who was appointed Imo State Commissioner for Happiness and Couples’ Fulfillment.

“You are the privileged group that has the opportunity to make names for yourselves. I want to remind all of you that this appointment is not business as usual. We shall not tolerate any sharp practice or corruption of any type. Neither shall we accept indolence or laziness. You have been called to duty to help us to achieve our vision in the Rescue Mission Project”, Okorocha read out to his new appointees.

Nepotism writ large

Before her elevation to head the ministry for Happiness and Couples’ Fulfilment, Ogechi Okorocha was the Governor’s Deputy Chief of Staff and Special Adviser on Domestic Matters.

What exactly will a Commissioner for 'Happiness and Couples’ Fulfilment’ be doing? What in God’s name is that crap? What’s her job description?

Will Mrs. Ololo ensure that couples across Imo are having the right kind of sex in the right proportion? Will she make sure that couples remember their partners’ birthdays and recommend what type of gifts to buy at anniversaries? Will she recommend what will be on the menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner times?

Is Madam Ololo’s ministry going to be giving families a stipend weekly to keep them happy and fulfilled?

Governor Okorocha’s new commissioner is ample proof that governance has become a huge joke in Nigeria. Aside its nepotistic leaning, creating a ministry just for a member of his family underlines the Governor’s shallow mindset on governance and his elevation of comedy into a governance form.

Waste of taxpayer resources

Ololo’s ministry is a complete waste of tax payer funds and the office should be scrapped with immediate effect. The Governor should find other avenues to appease members of his family.

Governance and government should be serious business whose overall goal should be delivering service to the greater number of people for the greater good of the people.

By most accounts from Imo, Okorocha has delivered pathetic governance. He’s chosen instead to rule by documentaries, billboards, statuesand endless gibberish.

Nigeria has been ‘blessed’ with some clueless leaders over the years. Okorocha should be occupying a pride of place in that list of infamy.
