PDP spokesman’s family concerned about his health

Metuh’s kinsmen also said the allegations against their son are fabricated and aimed at tarnishing his image.

The family of Olisa Metuh, the publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who is currently being detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has expressed concerns over the health of their son.

Punch Newspapers reports that the family's spokesman, Chief Gilbert Metuh  said “Our biggest concern for now is the health and safety of our son, who even before his arrest has alerted the nation about various threats to his life, a stance that is not unconnected to his position as the spokesperson of the opposition. Our position is more so as he has refused to eat following fears of intentions to poison him in detention.”

They also asked the EFCC to release their son, or charge him to court.

The family spokesperson said “In view of the above therefore, we DEMAND that the EFCC immediately release our son, Chief Metuh (Ugochidebelu Nnewi) from detention or charge him to court.”

They also added that Metuh admitted collecting some money from ex-President Goodluck Jonathan to carry out an important duty.

The spokesman for the EFCC, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, disclosed to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, January 5, 2016, that Metuh is being investigated over the N1.4 billion traced to the account of a company, Destra Investment Limited, linked to him in the arms contract scam.
