Readers provide solutions to Abuja's housing problems

80% think affordable housing estates by the government is the best solution to Abuja's housing issues.

Abuja

A recent News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) survey showed that most Abuja residents are homeless.

The results of the survey attributed this to a lot of housing estates being "far beyond the reach of low income earners''.

According to NAN's survey, a two-bedroom apartment in neighbourhoods such as Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse and Garki cost between N2.5 million and N3 million per year.

Similar apartment, outside the municipal areas, cost between N800,000 and N1.2 million per year, while a two-bed room apartment in satellite towns such as Kubwa, Lugbe and Karu is worth between N400,000 and N700,000 per year.

80% said affordable housing estates by the government would solve Abuja's housing problems.

The remaining 20% went for easier land acquisition as the solution to this epidemic.
