Unemployment rises to 25.5 percent in Q3

The expanded definition of unemployment, which includes people who have stopped looking for work, eased to 34.4 percent in Q3 from 34.9 percent.

South Africa's unemployment rate rose to 25.5 percent of the labour force in the third quarter of the year from 25 percent in the three months to June, official data showed on Tuesday.

In its quarterly labour force survey which polls households, Statistics South Africa said this amounted to 5.4 million people without work in the third quarter compared with 5.23 million previously.
