'TRACE is the ONLY agency in charge of enforcing traffic laws,' govt. says

LGs and LCDAs in Ogun state have been warned to leave the enforcement of traffic laws to TRACE.

TRACE officials

According to Vanguard, there is only one body responsible for this job and that is the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps of Ogun State (TRACE).

Other officials belonging to Local Governments and Local Council Development Authorities were warned to stop doing the exclusive job of TRACE officials.

A statement from the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for  Justice, Dr. Olumide Ayeni, said: “all persons and agencies, particularly those appointed by Local Governments and Local Council Development Authorities across Ogun State are to desist forthwith from any act of controlling, regulating or enforcing all traffic laws in any part of Ogun State”.

Likewise, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) officials have also been warned to leave the verification of vehicle particulars to only Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs).

The warning was issued by the Benue State Commissioner for Works, Transport and Energy Mr Emmanuel Manger, who announced that other agencies are not permitted to verify or check car documents.

He said, “Screening vehicle particulars by the police is a way of detecting criminals. Apart from that, it is the duty of VIS and not any other agency of government to check or verify vehicle particulars.”

Mr Manger also said that the FRSC can only print and present licenses to the VIOs to sign and issue to drivers.
