Contractor kicks off 204 middle-income house project in Kangemi

Residents of Kangemi, a slum in Nairobi, are set to have 204 new houses.

The Star reports that this project is called Mountain Gardens Apartments and is targeted at middle-income earners.

Waiyaki Way Developers, the contractor, spoke on the importance of the location, which is in a central site.

According to him, it is important for residents of these new houses to have access to the divisional police headquarters, for good security, public transport and well developed infrastructure.

“Here you start your day at 6am and you are in town by 7am but from other places you have to wake up at 4am. The road to and from town is dual carriage making the apartments accessible,” Waiyaki Way Developers chairman, Peter Maina, said.

This project, set to have 160 three-bedroom houses, 32 two-bedrooms and 12 penthouses, will be ready in 22 months.
