“Our focus is to ensure people stay alive and usher in the New Year"

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) is determined to keep Nigerians alive by ensuring that they obey traffic regulations.

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) is promising to keep Nigerians safe and alive, during and after the Christmas celebrations, as long as they obey all traffic rules and regulations.

According to Asst. Corps Marshal, Nseobong Akpabio, who is in charge of Zone 2, which comprises Lagos and Ogun Commands, the agency is deploying over 6,000 personnel in order to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

“Our focus is to ensure people stay alive and usher in the New Year, 2016, in peace and with joy. How do we achieve this? It is for everybody to be involved in road safety projects and programmes.

We must understand what causes crashes and behaviour that constitute dangers to us and other road users. It is our attitude that determines our safety on the roads. It is the bad use of the roads that leads to crashes and not bad roads themselves."

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), he revealed that the agency has put out patrol teams, in charge of looking out for rickety vehicles.

“Here, we cannot allow things to go wrong, we need to be on our toes all the time to ensure that we deliver and we cannot do it alone without the peoples’ cooperation."
