FCT sector warns philanthropists to stop giving cars to incompetent drivers

The Federal Road Safety Commission(FRSC) is advising philanthropists to only donate vehicles to people who can drive.

FRSC

In light of the horrible car crashes that occur regularly in Nigeria, Mr Sunday Oghenekaro, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), FCT, is advising philanthropists to only donate vehicles to people who can drive.

According to Mr Oghenekaro, this is because enquiries have shown that many of the drivers involved in accidents claim that their vehicles were donated by philanthropists.

"Many of the commercial vehicles are being given out to empower the unemployed youth, this is a good development, but caution must be exercised in doing that. I will advise such good-hearted individuals (Philanthropists) to ensure that such vehicles are given to those who are competent to drive them to achieve the objective of the gesture."

While addressing the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), he went on to reveal that commercial motorcycles had been completely banned from the metropolis.

"Total ban on commercial motorcycles within the metropolis has saved many lives and reduced fatalities."

He also spoke on the agency's commitment to arresting people driving vehicles without license and patrolling diligently throughout the "Ember" months.
