The Hotel Presidential in Enugu state is a shadow of its old self. The hotel which was the pride of the eastern region has become an eyesore.
State spends N4 billion on hotel upgrade
The renovation will gulp a whooping N4b and will involve redesigning the facilities and increasing the number of rooms from 100 to 150 exquisite rooms.
In a bid to give it a face lift and upgrade it to national standard, the state government entered into a concession deal with E-Hospitality Services Limited, (EHSL).
This deal between the Enugu state government and E-Hospitality Services Limited, (EHSL), culminated into a special purpose vehicle- Primeview Hotels Limited.
In a statement made available to pressmen, E-Hospitality Services Limited, (EHSL) said “Given the strong demand for quality hotel, leisure and conferencing facilities in the region, EHSL aims to breach this supply gap by providing what would be undoubtedly the premier business and leisure facility in the South-East zone when completed.”
The company also said that 'EHSL also expects that with the growing foreign direct investments, FDI flowing into the zone and the commencement of direct international flights into Enugu airport and significant foreign traveller traffic, the Hotel would become the destination of choice.'
The Hotel Presidential was constructed by Late Dr. Michael Okpara as part of his plan to industrialise the Eastern region.
