Most people confuse weddings for marriages although they are two very different things with very different procedures.

Most people confuse weddings for marriages but in truth, they are two very different things and they have very different procedures.

A marriage is a long term relationship between two individuals. On the other hand, a wedding is the ceremony of getting married.

In layman terms, this means that marriage is the actual act of getting married while weddings are the parties involved.

This means that, the phrase, “You are invited to my ” is correct and “You are invited to my ” is incorrect.

Saying “Their marriage was a disaster” implies that the couple was not happy in their life together and are probably separated or divorced.

While “Their wedding was a disaster” implies that something happened during the wedding and that the ceremony did not go smoothly. This means the couple can go on to have a long and happy marriage even after a disastrous wedding.

These differences while slight are very conspicuous and easily mixed up. The definition for each term and their durations goes further to buttress this point. These are the most obvious differences.

Marriage is the social contract and institution under which a couple live together (usually monogamously) for the rest of their lives.

A wedding is the act, ceremony or event of getting married.

The Duration for marriages are usually Lifelong, until dissolved by divorce or death of spouse.

On the other hand, weddings usually take just a few hours.
