They are educated, experienced, and believe that the future belongs to them. At the same time, however, they are full of fear.
The snowflake generation is Generation Z, raised in a glass bubble. As psychologists argue, the problem is that these people are emotionally immature.
The snowflake generation is a term that gained popularity after the publication of the book, Fight Club. It means young people who are convinced of their uniqueness (like snowflakes, each of which is an intricate work of nature), want to be admired and conquer the world, but at the same time are emotionally neglected.
Gen Zs are the snowflake generation
The snowflake generation is Generation Z, born between 1995 and 2012. These are well-educated people, know languages, are open to the world, most often coming from well-off families where money is not a problem.
At the same time, they are hypersensitive and anxious people, often demanding and maladjusted to life. They cannot deal with failures because they were brought up to never have to deal with them.
As sociologist, Katarzyna Krzywicka-Zdunek, said in an interview with Onet "They were given a lot of opportunities, and with these opportunities comes something like the fear of choice."
Due to emotional neglect, young people from the snowflake generation are often individualists who focus only on their needs. They don't keep their word, they may not show up for work if they are having a bad day. They have no sense of obligation because everything in life came easy to them.
A generation of snowflakes kept under wraps
Researchers claim that the main reason for this behavior is the upbringing model that involves "keeping it under wraps." This upbringing includes eliminating all problems, providing relief, constant praise and avoiding criticism.
Generation Z often finds it difficult to deal with the real world. They perceive every, even the smallest, conflict and misunderstanding as something very difficult and personal. They cannot cope with them, and the slightest failure can break them.
The snowflake generation is unique and helpless
Gen Zs often grew up alone. Focused on developing their professional careers, their parents provided them with further additional classes, foreign language lessons, piano playing and horse riding. Thanks to this, the generation is educated and well-experienced, but also very lonely.
In these homes, there was usually no time to go for a walk with the child, play football or draw with chalk on the sidewalk. This resulted not only in a lack of emotional connection, but also in a lack of self-esteem. Generation Z focused on achieving the best possible results in subsequent areas and thus earning their parents' attention and love.
Today these are people full of fear. Convinced that if they cannot cope with a situation, they will lose the respect of their loved ones. Parental neglect resulted in emotional immaturity.
The next generation is brought up differently. We do not want to repeat the mistakes of our parents, we know how important it is to provide a child with emotional care and be a mentally present parent.
