Tips for choosing your bridal jewellery

In order for your wedding dress not to clash with your accessories, careful planning has to be put into picking the right kind of jewellery.

Brides sometimes get it wrong when it comes to choosing bridal jewelleries for their wedding day.

Here are some tips on how to select the perfect bridal jewellery for your big day:

  • Once you've chosen your wedding dress, you can then start looking for accessories. Always take a picture of the dress with you when you go to choose jewellery. Or better still, you can have a copy of the picture next to your computer if you are checking online, so that you can keep the style in mind.
  • Ask experts for their opinion. Talk to your dress retailer, or get in touch with wedding jewellery specialists. You can also read bridal magazines for ideas and professional tips.
  • Make sure you choose your hair accessories first, before searching for the right kind of jewellery to to compliment it. Think about how you will style your hair on the big day and discuss the options with your hairdresser. You can also tear pictures from magazines to show your hairdresser or jewellery designer, these will help you get exactly the look you want.
  • Have a budget. If your budget does not stretch to buying a whole new collection of jewellery to wear, then you should consider having at least one special piece of quality jewellery and finding other accessories to match elsewhere. This way you will have one gorgeous keepsake piece which will be very sentimental.
  • While diamonds are the most common choice of bridal jewellery, pearls are perfect for weddings as they are timelessly elegant and very flattering. You can also add glamour and sparkle by combining pearls with diamantes and crystals.
  • Create a unique or fashion-forward look by layering different necklaces, cluster brooches on the hip or shoulder, or customise your dress with a sash or corsage. However, take note of your dress neckline before deciding on this type of neck piece.
  • Remember your bridesmaids. Jewellery makes a great thank you gift, and if you choose carefully, they can have something to wear on the day that will also make a wonderful keepsake.
  • Order your jewellery on time so that you can wear it during your last dress fitting. This way, you get to see the whole look come together with shoes, veil and of course the gown.
  • Make it fun. Choosing bridal jewellery is one of the best parts of planning your wedding, so enjoy and get your friends involved. Don't settle for anything less than perfect!
