How to get over a break-up ASAP

Break ups can be a tough situation to deal with, especially in this age of social media where we're all not just physically connected, but also in virtual space via one social media account or the other.

Chances are if you're above the drinking age limit, you've probably experienced a break up at some point or the other.

If you've not however, count your blessings.

This largely means that in a break up situation we not only have to go through the withdrawal process physically, we also have to severe ties online too.

By and large though, break ups vary from one person to the other, while some are amicable, others are bitter and drawn out, while there are cases where one party simply makes an unannounced exit from their partner's life, also known as (aka) "ghosting".

Regardless of which end of the spectrum one falls, it's never an easy process to severe emotional ties with anyone.

So, we've put together 7 points to guide anyone dealing with such a situation. Check them out.

1. Have a mourning period: You've just got out of an intimate situation with someone, it's perfectly human to be upset about it so don't let anyone talk you out of it. Allow yourself some time to wallow in the emotions - cry, be angry, moody whatever floats your boat. But only for a short while, then you must snap out of it and focus on healing.

2. Avoid being alone: With the mourning period over, avoid being alone as it gives you time to think, then you start to reminisce on your time together, get sad again and possibly get tempted to call, never a good idea especially if it wasn't an amicable breakup. So avoid being alone, instead hang out with friends and/or family.

3. Embark on a new project: Is there something you've always wanted to do - learn a new language, learn a new sport, take a course or even start a business? Seize the opportunity and do so now. Find something you're really passionate about and do it as this will keep your mind busy and distracted from the breakup you're dealing with.

4. Create a better version of yourself: The perfect revenge for a breakup is the ability to come out better whether it's finally getting to lose that weight, landing that dream job, setting up a business or even landing a much better catch. Petty? Maybe, but it works wonders for the ego which is always a good thing. So, turn an unpleasant situation around by focusing on creating a better version of yourself whether its physically, spiritually or financially.

5. Try something completely out of character: No, we're not talking about having a one night stand or anything like that. It's the simple things like taking a new route to work, talking to someone you normally don't talk to in the office or school, it could even visiting another state. There's nothing more distracting or fulfilling than trying something new.

6. Make new friends: Sometimes the world can suddenly have a new meaning when we experience it from someone else's perspective. So, make an effort to seek out new friends and you'd be surprised at how much fun you'll have in the process.

7. Get rid of every reminder of your ex: Notice how we've been harping on embarking on new experiences in the points above? The last thing you need is a reminder of what put you in a breakup situation in the first place, so delete, delete, block - phone numbers, pictures, social media accounts, friends everything. Just keep them away from immediate reach even if you don't want to delete.
