Homs used to be Syria's third largest city with nearly 1.5 million inhabitants before the civil war, more than half of the populace were displaced in the war which started in 2011.
Agence France-Presse photographer Joseph Eid also went with the young couple and their wedding photographer to take some stunning shots.
Youssef was dressed in his military uniform while Merhi wore a white wedding gown which served as a contrast to the ghost-like bombed out background where the photos were being taken.
Wedding photographer Meray told Eid that the purpose of the shoot was to demonstrate “life is stronger than death.”
