Paralyzed bride defies doctors to walk down the aisle

Tami Martin stunned her guests at an Atlanta church when she completed a 63-foot journey to reach her groom, Rob Dietrich, with aid of a walker tucked under her white wedding dress.

Tami Martin, a woman from Georgia who lost her legs after a horrifying car crash has defied doctors to walk down the aisle on her wedding day.

Martin stunned her guests at an Atlanta church when she completed a 63-foot journey to reach her groom, Rob Dietrich, with aid of a walker tucked under her white wedding dress.

"I walked down the aisle publicly after being told I would never walk again," she proudly told WXIA.

Martin was left paralyzed after breaking her back in a car accident in October 1999. Her spine was crushed between two of her lumbar vertebrae.

While undergoing intensive physical therapy, Martin started to gain weight.

She then broke her leg — and took a break from the rehabilitation sessions because of her weight gain.

However, she was determined to overcome her disability and underwent a surgical procedure to help her slim down.

She managed to lose an astonishing 192 pounds — which she says further encouraged her to achieve her aim of walking down the aisle.

"I said I might not walk, but there is no way I'm going to be out of shape," she told WXIA. "And now my goal is to walk again on my own without the aid of anything," she added.
