Man films self proposing everyday for a year, then shows video to girlfriend

In 365 days, Smith filmed himself holding pieces of paper with the date on it and a short message, usually 'Will you be my wife?', 'Jennifer, will you marry me?' or 'Make me the happiest man in the world'.

Of all the romantic marriage proposals we've seen so far, this one by Dean Smith takes the crown.

Smith from Scotsdale, Arizona, secretly filmed himself proposing everyday for one year. He came up with the idea on the birthday of his girlfriend, Jennifer Kessel in 2014.

He then joined all the footage together to make one video, using Bruno Mars' 'Marry You' as the background music. By day 256, the music changes to Pharrell Williams' hit song, 'Happy'.

The video was revealed during a family trip to Aruba, in the South Caribbean, where Kessel was instructed using a whiteboard held by her sister, Jaclyn, to go down to the hotel lobby.

Afterwards, her brother and then a friend, led her to the beach, where her father and stepmother were waiting to give her a tablet so that she could watch the footage.

The video began with Smith saying: "By now you've probably realized that your birthday surprise is in the form of this video. What you don't know is that I've been planning this birthday surprise for over a year now.

"I just wanted to make this video to tell you that today is the day that I decided I want to spend the rest of my life with you."

Speaking to Huffington Post, he said: "I knew that Jennifer was a fan of proposal videos on and would tear up at the sincerity and thoughtfulness of each proposal.

"She showed several of them to me, and I decided that I wanted to make her tear up to her own proposal."
