Qudus Onikeku's stage play hits Lagos and Abuja this weekend

"We Almost Forgot" is a contemporary dance production which aims aims at exploring memory and amnesia - what has the past got to offer the present beyond history?

Theatre lovers are in for a thrill this weekend as Qudu Onikeku's stage play "We Almost Forgot" hits the stage this weekend.

The play shows today Friday, June 24th in Lagos  at Freedom Park, as part of the Lagos Live Arts festival, from where it moves to Abuja on Sunday, June 26th at the National Universities Commission.

The Abuja showing will be followed by a discussion where the audience will have the opportunity to interact with the artists and express their thoughts on contemporary dance and its progression in Nigeria and the world over.

The play features 6 dancers and 1 actress, all of varied backgrounds and identities (Nigeria, Gabon, Morocco, Algeria, Madagascar & France).

It tells its story through the use of high energy movements, story-telling, singing and intricate music.

Qudus Onikeku is a world renowned Nigerian choreographer and dance export who's had a career spanning over a decade in Paris.

He is the Artistic Director and founder of YK Projects Paris and the QDanceCenter Lagos, and a graduate of The National Higher School of Circus Arts, France.

Onikeku has won several wards including "Dancer of the year” at the 2009 edition of the Future Awards in Nigeria. Also in October 2010, his solo piece “My Exile is in my head” won the Best Solo Performance during the Africa-wide dance encounters “Danse l’Afrique Danse” in Bamako, Mali.
